WATERLANDERS | TEARDROPS

1994

“Waterlanders” is Simone van Dusseldorp’s 1994 graduation film from the Netherlands Film and Television Academy. It depicts two sisters coping with their parents’ death and constructing their own reality in an attempt to regain a sense of agency. While the sisters share an unbreakable bond, the older sister’s growing curiosity about the outside world strains their relationship as the younger sister resists these newfound changes.

“Waterlanders” won the Grand Prize of Oberhausen at the 41st edition of the Oberhausen International Film Festival. It also received the Grolsch Film Prize for “Waterlanders,” which recognizes young emerging talent.

Roxy’s life is turned upside down when her husband is found dead and naked, along with his secret lover. Determined to protect her daughter, Roxy flees and drives with her daughter and the babysitter to Nice. While her inner anger simmers, Roxy views life with a hefty dose of sarcasm and self-deprecation. Through unexpected twists and turns, Roxy discovers herself and takes responsibility for her own life.

The campaign of the National Committee for 4 and 5 May focuses on the theme of FREEDOM. It emphasizes the uniqueness of continuously living in freedom in the Netherlands since the liberation. We are called upon to collectively handle freedom responsibly and to pass on this freedom ourselves.

The commercial has been nominated for the Golden Loeki award.

The campaign for Kessels en Kramer is called “Ben terug” (I’m back).

This was a large-scale campaign where the commercial was simultaneously aired on two channels. If the audience would switch channels, they would hear the same text, but delivered by a different character.

Soa Aids Nederland challenged visitors from 6 major youth platforms to think about the ideal moment for condom use. This led to six relatable scenarios, transformed into three Postbus 51 commercials. These “vrij veilig” commercials show different approaches to discussing condom use. The campaign, directed by Simone van Dusseldorp, aims to encourage open conversations among young people.

CHILDHOOD DREAMS is a nine-part family chronicle about an ordinary Dutch family, in which an unusually big secret seeps like poison through the different generations. From the tumultuous 1960s to the present, the series shows how capricious and unpredictable life unfolds for the originally Catholic Wander family from Brabant. The series was selected for the prestigious Cannes Séries festival, where it had it’s official world premiere.

Starring Hannah van Vliet, Tamar van der Dop, Annet Malherbe, Mark Rietman, Jacob Derwig, Peter Paul Muller and Gijs Naber screenplay Marnie Blok directed by Bram Schouw and Simone van Dusseldorp produced by Topkapi Series in co-production with Dutch broadcaster KRO-NCRV.
